Susan Sanford is a an artist in Oakland, California. She is continually fascinated by rewriting history in one way or another. Currently, her Altered Ancestors series imagines alternative lives for those trapped in old photos. Some works explain the facts of life as understood by a somewhat confused but opinionated person. Photographs are an attempt to fix the moment permanently in the same way that a collector fixes a butterfly with pins.
